Pass on the good - ITBAYAT

Receiving disaster news about a place close to your heart can be worrisome, in a way that a lover, far from his beloved, learned that she is in distress. The yearning to reach out and be her hero just to make things better can be quite unbearable from a distance. It’s like nothing else would ease the pain aside from being actually there.

That is exactly how we felt when Itbayat Island was hit by a series of earthquakes last July (2019). We could only exhaust our efforts to respond from miles away because of time and safety constraints.

But finally seeing the faces of our “Kahilyan” (Itbayat fellowmen) gave us a comforting sigh. Being with them for a short while, we enjoyed expressing our shared hopes, imagination, and memories. And without anticipation, we were enlightened by this quick reunion: that pain and fear may still live within and any attempt to escape or simply deny it may not eradicate every trace; but the promise that we are in this together maybe of somewhat ease as if, we were actually there that dreadful day.

We were blessed to impart Arts Buffet to a total of 393 participants from the 8 workshops we conducted in both the Centro and Barangay Raele of Itbayat.

Our goal in this project is to inspire the younger generation and expose them in the different ways art can be expressed as well as its role in shaping their future.

By the end of our workshops, the children took their works home to show their parents. We took home our clips and their smiles.

To all who extended their love for the people of Itbayat through their donations and purchases at “Art for a Cause” and our “Wear Your Tribe” shirt collection release, and to our Kahilyan volunteers (teachers, LGU, families, and friends), we thank you!

This is just the beginning for Arts Buffet - Itbayat. Til we meet again!
